West Belfast Man
West Belfast Man is a collection of 100 poems reflecting the highs and lows of life from teenage years up to the present. The collection is heartfelt, honest and bears witness to my innermost emotions. At times, I reflect on family and love but talk about the everyday mundane too. Some poems are funny, some dark. They capture moments of my life and are expressions of how I deal with feelings and process relationships. I look inward, trying to find reason, and out to the world, asking questions about society and my role in the soup of humanity.
Reviews
5 Stars: From the sweet pride of “Baby OJP”, through the raw heartbreak of
“Dismantle”, the gentle beauty of the everyday mundane of “0ld Man
of Cadiz” and the frightening loneliness of “The Last Step” this
collection of 100 poems provides an insight into life in all its aspects;
sometimes happy, sometimes mundane, sometimes agonising.
John’s bravery in opening his heart and soul is commendable and
certainly made me reflect on the wonderful, and not so wonderful,
times in my own life.
4 Stars: From stream of consciousness to sharp, witty and succinct, there is
a poem for everyone in this collection. Some made me laugh, some
brought tears but always very human. Lovely.
